Caribou Hunting In Greenland

Ice Sheet in Greenland

before the hunt

For the caribou hunt you should plan around 5 to 6 full days in camp, plus travel time. The adventure begins in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland’s main airport and gateway to the vast Arctic wilderness. From here it’s only a short off-road journey into the hunting grounds, but you will already feel the remoteness and scale of the country.

The camp is located in pristine tundra with direct views of the Greenland Ice Sheet. The lodge is clean, warm, and comfortable, with double rooms for hunters. Evenings often bring clear skies with northern lights dancing above camp – a sight you will never forget.

Those with ATV driving experience can choose to ride their own ATV behind the guide into the valleys, which many hunters prefer over being a passenger. The terrain is open and rugged, making it perfect for spotting and stalking game.

DAY 1

Upon arrival in Kangerlussuaq, our team will meet you at the airport. After loading the gear we head directly to the hunting camp. The transfer is a 1–2 hour off-road drive through a remote desert-like valley in Toyota Land Cruisers.

When we arrive at camp, hunters check into their rooms, unpack, and get settled. There is time to prepare gear, meet the guides, and enjoy the view of the Ice Sheet. In the evening, we gather for a hearty dinner and briefing about the hunt. The first night in Greenland sets the tone for the adventure ahead.

DAY 2 - 6

The hunting days start early. In the mornings, it is possible to hunt arctic foxes close to camp. For the caribou, we set out with ATVs into the valleys. The option of driving your own ATV makes the hunt active and engaging, but you can also ride as a passenger if you prefer.

We usually spend the entire day in the field, glassing the tundra for caribou and planning stalks once animals are spotted. The landscape is wide open, with rolling hills and rocky ground, giving good chances to observe herds at a distance. Closing the distance requires patience and effort, but the reward is unforgettable.

After a successful caribou hunt, the experience continues. We often go ice fishing for cod, take a guided glacier tour, or simply explore the stunning Arctic surroundings. This is not just a hunting trip – it is a full Arctic expedition.

Evenings are spent back at camp with warm meals, stories, and often the northern lights overhead.

AFTER THE HUNT

Once the hunt is successfully completed, the focus shifts to celebrating the experience and enjoying everything Greenland has to offer. Back at the camp, trophies are prepared for transport, while the group enjoys meals and stories from the hunt around the fireplace overlooking the landscape. From camp we return by off-road vehicles to Kangerlussuaq, where hunters can either connect directly to international flights or spend extra time exploring Greenland.

If the hunter wishes to take the trophy back immediately, all the necessary papers and documentation for transport will be provided. Alternatively, the hunter may choose to have the trophy sent to our taxidermist. Once the euro mount or taxidermy is completed, the finished trophy can be shipped directly to the hunter’s address. If the trophy is being exported to another country, CITES may be required for certain species. This permit can take up to two months to obtain, after which the trophy will be sent directly to the hunter’s address.

Many hunters choose to add a day for sightseeing or fishing before flying home. The combination of the hunt, the Ice Sheet, and the northern lights makes this a truly unique Arctic experience – far beyond just a hunt for caribou.
