Hunting Seasons in Mozambique

Summer
(Dec - Feb)

Mozambican summer is hot, humid, and marked by heavy rains. This is the peak of the rainy season, with average annual rainfall reaching around 1000mm (40″). Due to challenging weather conditions, hunting is not permitted during this time. The heat and thick vegetation make it difficult to track animals, and many species disperse across the landscape. It’s a time of rest for the bush and hunters alike.

Autumn
(Mar - May)

As the rains fade and the air begins to dry, Mozambique enters a transitional season. While still warm, the humidity drops and the terrain becomes more accessible. Hunting season begins in mid-May, as animals become easier to spot near water sources. It’s an excellent time to observe the bush coming back to life with clearer paths and increased wildlife movement.

Winter
(Jun - Aug)

Winter is the coolest and driest time of year in Mozambique, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C (68°F–86°F). The dry landscape draws animals closer to water, making this an ideal time for hunting. Chasing predators like leopard and lion is especially fruitful before the end of August. Visibility is high, and cooler conditions allow for longer hunts with less physical strain.

Spring
(Sep - Nov)

Spring brings rising temperatures and the final stretch of the hunting season. Vegetation is at its thinnest, and game becomes highly concentrated around the last remaining water sources. This is the best time to hunt buffalo, as it’s the driest part of the year. Predator hunting also peaks during these months. The season closes at the end of November, just before the rains return.

The story of this hunt will be told for years.
The question is—who will be the one to tell it?
