ibex Hunting In tajikistan
ibex hunting tajikistan 🇹🇯
from start to finish

before the hunt
For the hunt itself you need about 5–6 days in the mountains, but the full trip takes 10 days. Travel goes through Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. Distances are huge and the drives are long, but they are already part of the adventure – a real expedition feel.
Most hunters fly with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. You usually land in Istanbul around the afternoon and continue with the night flight, arriving in Dushanbe early in the morning. The flight itself is quite comfortable.
On arrival in Dushanbe our team and your English-speaking guide meet you at the airport. Weapon import permits are done quickly (a few minutes per hunter). Once that’s sorted, we load into the 4×4 vehicles and start the long road towards the Pamirs.
The way to the hunting area goes through Khorog and Murghab. This is not a short transfer – it takes two to three days of driving depending on the hunting camp – but the road itself is an experience. You drive through high mountain passes, deep valleys, and tiny remote villages where time has stopped. It’s tough, but it’s unforgettable.

DAY 1
You arrive in Dushanbe in the morning. After clearing weapons and luggage, two options are possible:
Option 1: Overnight in Dushanbe. Rest, have dinner, and briefing with the team.
Option 2: Immediately start the long drive to Khorog. It’s a full-day journey with lunch en route. Arrival in Khorog in the evening, hotel check-in, dinner, and rest.
DAY 1
If you stayed in Dushanbe: After breakfast, full-day drive to Khorog. Hotel check-in, dinner, and overnight.
If you already stayed in Khorog: Early breakfast, then continue towards Murghab and from there straight to the hunting camp. On arrival we unload the gear, check into camp, test rifles (usually 300–500 meters, sometimes more), and prepare equipment for the hunt. Dinner and overnight in camp. Evenings in camp are simple but authentic: hot food, stories with the guides, and a real wilderness feeling.

DAYS 3 - 7
The hunt starts at dawn. Each hunter is usually accompanied by two local guides. We move on foot or sometimes with horses depending on the terrain. The hunting area is high: always above 3,500 m, and most of the time between 4,000–4,500 m, so the lack of oxygen is very noticeable. Good physical shape is important.
Hunting is classic spot-and-stalk. We glass the mountains, locate ibex, and then plan the stalk. Sometimes you have to climb hard and cross ridges; sometimes it’s waiting for them to come back from feeding. Every day is different.
If ibex are spotted late in the afternoon, we may stay overnight high in the mountains so we’re in position at first light. If not necessary, we return to the main camp for the night. From November onward it gets very cold, so usually we sleep in camp every night.
Shots are normally 250–400 meters, sometimes more. Hunters must be ready and well-practiced with their rifles. We aim to get a chance already by the second or third day so we don’t waste time.
Trophy sizes are very good here: generally 100 cm+, often 105–120 cm. The biggest in a group is usually taken if it makes the hunter happy. Payment is per centimeter, so there’s no stress – and missed shots are not charged. The important thing is that the hunter is prepared to take the opportunity.

Day 8
After breakfast in camp, we pack up and start the long drive back via Murghab to Khorog. Arrival in the evening, hotel check-in, dinner, and rest.
day 9
After breakfast, another full-day drive back to Dushanbe. Evening hotel check-in, dinner, and overnight.
day 10
Breakfast at the hotel. If there is time before the flight, we can make a short city tour in Dushanbe – markets, museums, or monuments. In the evening, transfer to the airport for your departure. Many hunters choose to spend an extra day or two in Dushanbe, enjoying the city’s restaurants, markets, and Central Asian culture.
